Hawai’i Island police seek the public’s help in identifying a woman who passed a counterfeit $100 bill.

On April 24 at about 2:32 p.m., South Hilo patrol officers responded to a business establishment located on East Puainako Street in Hilo, for a reported theft.

During their investigation, officers determined that an elderly Asian woman purchased a large amount of produce with a $100 bill. The bill was later checked with a counterfeit detection device which revealed that it was fake.

Photos of the woman were captured by the business’ video surveillance system. Those with information regarding this investigation or the woman’s identity may contact Detective Jenny Lee at 808-961-2279 or [email protected].

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the island-wide Crime Stoppers number at 808-961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
